The Annual Denton Redbud Festival is the City of Denton's official Arbor Day event, a home and garden show, and community festival hosted by Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. in April. Each year, the Redbud Festival features dozens of booths from local vendors offering tree and plant sales, gardening products,
landscaping and home improvement items, children's environmental exhibits and activities, and fun festival foods. Festival attendance is estimated between 5,000 and 7,000 people each year.
The Denton Redbud Festival dates back to the 1930s, when Texas State College (now Texas Women's University) implemented a campus beautification program that included transplanting more than 2,000 Redbud trees on campus grounds. The school hosted an annual Redbud Festival until 1981; then, in 1994, Keep Denton Beautiful gave the festival new life in honor of Denton's designation as the "Redbud Capital of Texas." Keep Denton Beautiful seeks supporters for the Redbud Festival year-round - from event sponsorships, to volunteers, to vendors.
